Saint Patrick Breakfasts – widening our circles on March 17th

| February 6, 2014

“If separation is the seed of conflict, reconciliation begins with the simple act of meeting together.”

Saint Patrick Breakfasts are a fun and enjoyable way to begin our March 17th celebrations. Their goal is to create contexts in which people from all backgrounds and traditions can meet together, build new friendships and enjoy the rich diversity of our modern Irish culture.

They can be very simple – such as inviting a few neighbours to join you for some food before you head out to the parade, or very complicated – such as a large multi-element event for several hundred in a local hotel. It’s entirely up to you! The big idea, the important thing, is to  kick off our March 17th celebrations in the best possible way by widening our circles a little and inviting some others, particularly those from different backgrounds to us, to spend a part of the morning in each other’s company.

Throughout his life Patrick was continually reaching out to people, crossing societal divides that existed in his time and offering friendship to all regardless of creed or status. When we choose to make a similar choice in how we go about celebrating the day that bears his name, we not only honour his legacy, we continue it.

Whether you’d like to try something very simple, or have a go at organising a full-blown Saint Patrick Breakfast for your whole community, we’d be delighted to help you get started. Just email us at office@patrickproject.org and we’ll be delighted to get in touch.
